Hi Liz, I have an application in for adoption (just in case) and have been approved. I would love to foster but I work full time and a lot of times I think most need more supervision than I can give. All that being said my intention is to foster after I retire *6 more years!
For now I will just be cheering and donating as my life allows.
I'm glad to hear that there is a need in the NE area. I'll keep checking, and try to find one closer than NY or NJ if you feel that's best. Please be assured that we have no qualms about going to bring one back with us and are willing to make the trips to do this. Thank you for responding, I feel better just hearing from you. In the meantime, we will fill out the volunteer application and hope that we can help in this way until the day our dog, indeed, finds us. Thank you again for your help; you've been very kind and supportive.
Thank you for the wonderful welcome! Ginger had a playdate with her friends from the Vegas group on DK. It was a joy to see her play with her friends as I made new friends. Thank you for all the support and well wishes. I know Ginger will be safe and happy with us.
Hope you are having a wonderful holiday. We are celebrating Easter at my brother's house. Maxine is visiting with her "cousin" Sierra - a yellow lab mix. They are having a good time together. Maxine has been with us for less than a year but we are sooo attached to her. She has been the perfect dog for our family! She has brought so much joy. Everyone who meets her asks me - Where did you find such a nice dog? I will of course refer them to website. I am so thankful that our family was selected to adopt her. Thank you for all your hard work in finding good homes for dogs in need.
You are right! We see that so much with people who want to rescue a German Shepherd (as well as people relinquishing them) - they don't understand how smart they are and how much they need leadership. If you can't provide that, look out!
PS Liz, I love your pictures. Another reason I'm thinking of doodles is that they seem to have such wonderful temperaments and are probably a little less angst-filled than Shepherds - I've met a few in the past year that seem like great dogs.
Hi Liz, I am interested in doodles in part because they don't shed so much (and GSDs are terrible shedders!!) and I like their size and intelligence. I have always had GSDs but since I have children and their friends around a lot, sometimes they are difficult for kids to deal with. At this point I am not in a position to adopt but my dogs are both very old (12 and 13) so I know that sometime this year, sadly, I probably will!
Awhhh.....thank you so much! Once you go "doodle" you don't go back..we love our doodle and I know he is the best puppy in the whole wide world:-) I love sharing him from far away but it is so hard for us to leave him with the sitter when we travel. Since he is a large dog I have yet to find a condo that accepts my pup even though he is totally house trained and never chews on anything...he is our perfect puppy!
Hi Liz thanks for the message. I have been checking doodles in need and have called about one named Fred. I have not heard anything back yet. I am absolutly up for a road trip. We did apply for Cash but I guess his special needs prevent him from traveling too far. I hope he finds a wonderful family to love him. I am keeping the faith that we will find our doodle!
Thank you, I didn't realize I could fill one out prior to being able to adopt. Though we hope Rudy will live forever, we do know that we might lose him in the next year or two as he's 15, so we are trying to be realistic, too. I would love to adopt another dog before Rudy goes, which we did with our Goldens, but he is such an Alpha dog and just does not have the temperament to accept another dog at his age (though when he was younger, he did great when we had our son's dog with us over the summers. So, as long as I can stay on the list as an "on hold" but very eager applicant, I would love to fill out an application. And also, to donate to help other fostered dogs.
Thank you for everything. I just added a few pictures of Oliver. We took more, but did not download them into the computer yet.
Oliver is such a joy. He is a fast learner and is loved by everyone who sees him.
