I wish I could tell you how my life started.  Whether it was in a cramped cage in a puppy mill or whether my life had a happier beginning.

I wish I could tell you the story behind why I ended up for adoption, but truthfully I don’t really know if I understand the reason myself.

I do know one thing: I am a special dog.  I am just as valuable as any dog purchased from a breeder at top dollar…in fact I am even more special because I need you sooo very much.

I had a rough start at life.  Maybe my family didn’t have time for me or maybe I was more work than they could handle (hey, keeping this beautiful coat looking good is no easy task and I understand that) but I am special too.

I deserve the same love and attention that you would give to a dog for which you paid hundreds or thousands of dollars and I am not just a budget friendly option.

I am special, but for whatever reason I need a new home.

I am not a discount dog or clearance dog.  Please don’t want me just because I come at a lower price.  Want me because I am special.  Want me because you will love me.  That is why I want you.

I will love you with all of my heart.  You will mean the world to me.  My  body will wiggle with excitement as soon as you walk in the door and I will shower you with doodle kisses.

Want me despite the fact that I have an unknown past.  Please understand that I may seem timid and shy for awhile, but that goes back to my unknown past.  I will love you, I promise.  Just don’t want me because I seem like a good bargain.

Understand that even though I can come into your life for much cheaper than a breeder’s pup, my lifetime costs will be the same.  I guarantee that I LOVE to eat and quality food doesn’t come cheap.  Treats and toys will be great too (although I may be afraid to take treats from your hand at first or may not know how to play with toys, but give me time and I’ll come around).

I will depend on you to keep me looking my best, which will mean trips to the groomers every 6 weeks or so and I know that will cost you money, but we both want me to look cute and cuddly, right?

I promise to try not to get sick (the vet kinda scares me) but I there will definitely be times when I really need to be seen.   I may already have some medical issues or some may pop up in the future, but I hope that you and the vet will do whatever it takes to keep me healthy for the rest of my life.  Wow…now that I think about it, I am a lot of work and do cost a lot of money every year, but I promise to pay you back with more love than you can even imagine.

So please, want me because I am special. Want me because we can mean the world to each other.  Just don’t want me because you can get me at a good price.

thanks for reading it.  sometimes I feel like people want a "rescue dog" for all the wrong reasons.

I think this needs to be emailed to every applicant that applies for a dog.  Thank you for sharing this Amy!

Amy, thanks for being a voice for homeless doodles, I think you said everything they would if they could.
