We want to adopt a rescue dog that is suitable for a varied family (Grammy age 82, 3 girls ages 17, 12, and 6). We don't want a puppy or very young dog because my mom has mobility issues and can easily fall. In the process of dogwalking for a friend who is dogsitting but cannot walk, we just learned last week that I am allergic to dogs, at least to those that shed. That wasn't a problem 12 years ago with our white German Shepherd, but my allergies and sensitivities have worsened over the years in Virginia.
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs as an adult, with vet records in your own name (not parents' names)?
We do not currently have any pets. In the past, we have had dogs (German shepherds), cats, goldfish, hermit crabs, the whole gamut.
Have you read our adoption policies, located under the "About DRC" tab?
We absolutely love retrievers and labs. We keep running into doodles in our travels and have heard so many good things about them. We can only have a non-shedding (or minimally shedding) dog due to my allergies, so a doodle helps us get my favorite dog with minimal discomfort.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
Close friends of ours have rescued a number of dogs over the past couple of years, so they are an inspiration. Our 3 girls receive donations to SPCA in lieu of gifts at their birthday parties, and it is a special treat to go to the local SPCA to donate all our goodies and play with the animals.

Thank you for your interest in adopting a doodle. I just saw your message or would have responded sooner.
We do live very close by! I recommend you visiting our website regularly and filling out an application. I also recommend keeping your expectations about a dog, "open". It is amazing how a dog will end up being a perfect fit for your family even though he or she wasn't the one you were originally looking for......does that make sense???
