I am a post-bac student trying to get into nursing school here in Houston. I have two adopted doodles and am excited to have a forum to share stories and support for doodle rescue!
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs as an adult, with vet records in your own name (not parents' names)?
I have two doodles, both female.
Lootie Whistle: is 18months 60lbs. She is from a Standard Poodle Rescue in Alabama. I think she is a goldendoodle but I call her a "HensonDoodle" because she looks and acts like a muppet!
Abby; (Abby Goose) is new to our "family" (Lootie Whistle and me) she had a rough go of things but is still so sweet, gentle and easy to be around. She is also about 18months-2 years old and is fitting in beautifully!
Have you read our adoption policies, located under the "About DRC" tab?
I grew up with red toy poodles because everyone in my family has allergies and we also like smart dogs that are good with kids! However, as an adult I wanted someone I could go running with so I needed a dog that was bigger. I searched online at petfinder.com for over 3 years before I was really ready and knew my dog and I had found each other. Then, I wanted to get a companion for my first dog and just have a more full family, thats when I found Abby. She is the perfect fit for us and we all are so happy and blessed that we found each other.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
I am not involved in rescue, aside from rescuing two doodles. I would like to be a resource for the Houston area as it was difficult to schedule a home visit since the closest resource was about 40min North. Houston is a large city and should have more people available to help with this cause.
The ornaments are awesome and not blurry at all! Paisley is doing so much better. We are beginning to go into the front yard on a leash but, she won't leave the front yard yet...too far out of her comfort zone right now. I took her to be spayed yesterday and she did really well with their staff. She even walked out on a leash wagging her tail after the procedure :). She is truly a sweet little soul and has gained 3 pounds since I've had her. She just needs a wonderful home where she can live "safe" for the rest of her life...just need that one special person to apply for her :). Talk to you soon...kiss the doodle girls for me...
I just got your gift today. I'm speechless!...which is really rare for me :). It is the sweetest, most thoughtful gift I think I've ever received!! I love them so much!! Tom says that we're going to make a "foster dog" Christmas tree this year and your ornaments will be the crowning jewel on the tree :). I'm so glad to have met you and to call you a friend and fellow rescuer! Thank you so much for the gift :). I hope to be able to get together with you and the "girls" for a real playdate sometime soon. Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one :).
The fact that you, Abby & Lootie are so happy really warms my heart! She is a cuddle-bug and will eat up any and all attention lavished on her :). Doodleball sounds fun but, I'd probably be sitting on the sidelines cuddling Abby too. My house is really quiet...I hate to admit it but, it's kind of boring around here without a foster. My dogs, however, are getting more naps in today but, I think they are looking to see where everyone went. Keep the updates coming...I so love to hear from you!
LOVE that you are posting updated photos! Abby looks so happy and that makes me even happier :). So miss that calm girl. Inky is flying to her new family in Mass. on Monday and my newest foster, Sawyer is going home hopefully Tuesday. I'm going to be down to my two...the house is going to feel empty. Please let me know if you need anything.
Happy one week with Abby!! I'm sure things are just getting better and better for her as she settles in with you and Lootie Whistle. Hugs to all of you from our family :). If you ever come up our way again we'll have to get together to have all of the dogs play.
