Our Golden doodle, Buck, does something similar except he doesn't face you. For instance, when I'm sitting on the couch he will come toward me, turn around and sit down right at my feet. He simply remains sitting there until I figure out what he needs. My wife is much better at it than I am, but he will just sit there facing away as long as it takes, more or less motionless.
