Hi Linda, welcome to the DRC website.
Unfortunately, goldendoodles do get the same diseases as their parent breeds, and are very prone to developing the same cancers seen in purebred Goldens. We know many, many goldendoodles who developed & died from hemangiosarcoma, including dogs owned by our own board of directors and volunteers. With 66% of all Golden Retrievers developing some type of cancer in their lifetimes, mixing those genes with Poodles does not really produce healthier dogs. That's basically a marketing myth. We find that the healthiest dogs are those from preservation purebred breeders who do thorough health screenings/testing of their breeding stock, know the history of their lines, and "prove" their dogs before breeding them, and that just simply doesn't happen with doodles or any other mixed breed, where they are being bred strictly to sell puppies. With any doodle, health is a gamble.
