Last month, DRC was contacted by a volunteer representative of a high kill shelter located in the southern tip of Texas on the Mexican border. We were asked if we could help save 6 young "Labradoodles" from certain…

Ms.Annie our Foster

My foster Annie has been gone for almost a week now. Jordan, is slowly getting over her sadness. Jordan really loved Annie, more than any other foster so far. Annie's new family reports she is doing really well adjusting to her new life. They sent pictures and Annie really looks happy! Annie was a hard foster for us. She was a big puppy with little manners and very active. Annie's spay week was the hardest for us. How do you keep an active 10m puppy down? I ended up calling my Vet and begging… Continue

Norman finds a home! (also on Doodle Kisses)

Wow! It has been a little over 2 weeks since we brought Norman to his forever family. I've been meaning to sit down and post for a while now, but we've been trying to get back to our pre-Norman schedule & it has been a little bit of an adjustment.

We had him two months, so he had plenty of time for his skin to heal. We're definitely missing him at our house, but we could not have asked for a better family for him!

He has a new big brother, a Great Pyrenees,…

Fozzi's weekly update

Maggie and Fozzi are now pretty comfortable with each other.  They take turns chewing on bones.......that says quite a bit.  Fozzi had a rough week in the sense that he wasn't eating much and his tummy was making some strange sounds.  Couldn't figure out what was wrong with him.  He would eat a bit and then stop.  Finally, the night before last I go upstairs to find that Fozzi had thrown up and entire sock.  It wasn't even chewed up.  I have no idea how he could get it down, let alone get it…

one year

we have had our little girl for one year now!!!!!!

she is doing really well
she has even jumped up into strangers laps that were visiting the other night. She and our Dylan play a lot, and Viv is also keeping toys away from him for longer periods of time now.

Plus.....all three dogs are *legitimate* since John and I were married in October.

Five Years Ago....

My husband drove for hours and hours to Georgia to pick up our new puppy (just 7 weeks old!), because he couldn't wait for one to be available in Florida. I was against the idea from the start after losing our 18 year old mutt years before, but I was outvoted.

By the time he got back home, puppy (no name yet) was sick from the car ride, and afraid to walk on our wood floors. It took us a week to figure out that Ginger, our first thought, was the best name for her. She grew up so fast I…

Lilly found her new home...and her twin!

When Lilly woke up on Saturday morning she didn't know it was going to be such a big day for her.  You see, her family had relocated recently to a smaller home without a fenced yard and she was not a happy doodle girl.  Her mom could see how sad Lilly was, not being able to play in a yard or just sit on the deck and watch the squirrels, so it was with sadness of her own that she contacted DRC to help find Lilly the perfect family to bring the sparkle back to Lilly's eyes.

Little did…

We honestly don't know Tanner's heritage.  We have listed him as a poodle/golden retriever mix.

But he could be just about any poodle mix. …

Catching Up With Luna Foster Doodle

Well, Luna continues to be prove herself to be one of the sweetest doodles I've ever fostered. She certainly still has her issues...and lots of them...but I definitely see small pockets of progress.

On January 16th, Luna started her heartworm treatment. She'd been on doxycycline for five weeks prior to that initial injection. Luna is my first heartworm positive dog and I just didn't know what to expect. Would she be in pain? (yes, a bit - it's a large, deep injection) Would…

Cash will soon go home!

This is probably the final Cash blog I’ll do. He’ll be leaving for his forever home in a couple of weeks. We have loved being part of this guy’s life for the past few months, and he is now part of our forever memories. He’s managed to snuggle his way into our hearts.

I think the first dog you foster is probably the hardest because you aren’t prepared for the mixed emotions as they leave your care and move on. You watch them bloom from the fearful, confused rescue animal to a…

HOLIDAY CASH - a foster dog update

Busy times have led to fewer Blog updates, but today it's time. Cash has been a great boy over the holidays! I was really afraid he'd water the Christmas tree like he does the ones in the yard – but he didn't bother the tree at all! He left the ornaments, lights, gifts and everything untouched unless his toy bounced into the milieu and then he carefully reached in to get it. I'm continually amazed by what an easy dog he is.

He has gotten comfortable enough with us now to let a couple… Continue

Gus has been sprung

Tuesday 11/2...

Well, the elder DD and I drove to the Etowah Animal Shelter and sprung Gus from jail. We had a bit of fun taking the “scenic” route (read as we got lost as sh#%t even with the GPS) through rural Georgia & Alabama. We picked up

Gus and drove 1.5 hours back home and straight to our vet. Gus has (soon to be had)

tapes, hook and whip worms, but is thankfully H/W negative. I am happy to say

that he is a GREAT car rider and one big lovable hunk. He is also…

OPERATION "THREE AMIGOS" - Mission Accomplished!

It is hard to believe that it has been 5 weeks since Operation Three Amigos started with rescue of 3 young male doodles from a North Carolina shelter. Well I am happy to say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! Duke was adopted first by a lovely family in NC. Yesterday Harvey joined his forever mom and today F Scott Fitzdoodle, the last of the Three Amigos, found his forever family.

Me and my shadow

Me and my shadow are not feeling blue at all. My shadow follows me where ever I go, even if it from room to another then back again. My shadow sleeps on a floor pillow on my side of the bed. Every morning when the alarm clock chimes my shadow puts his front feet on the bed to greet me with morning kisses and a tail wag. The only time he doesn't follow me is when he is romping with Harlow or chasing the tennis balls Frannie gave us.

F Scott has come a long way from the frightened dog… Continue

Foster Dog Blog #4

Gus has been with us for three full weeks now. He's really starting to feel secure here and he and Mater have become great buddies. But he definitely wants to be the alpha dog of the two and Mater isn't used to that. I think perhaps it comes from Gus having been altered much later in life while Mater and most of his friends were less than a year when they were neutered. Gus is a leg lifter and scent spreader, for certain. I keep trying to teach him not to water my…

Foster Dog Blog #3 - Getting to know Gus

You can’t keep a good Labradoodle down. We are learning that as we try to keep Gus calm and without any stress on his heart or lungs as the heartworm treatment does its job. Gus is still a puppy at heart and playing in the sprinklers on a hot day fills him with such a joyous exuberance for life that it’s hard to stop him. (Photo clip from video is attached.)…
