My first visit to the Groomer!

Well since I was shaved. I was so excited to have a spa day. Nails were getting clipped, and I was getting a bath and an all over trim...lucky me! I did okay, but I was a bit scared so the nice groomer kept the table low for me and was so nice and patient. I was really happy to see my owner when it was all done as I was ready for a treat and a walk. I even got a cute bandana (but I'd rather a DRC bandana) and bell, but I think my boys will take those off very quickly! Now I look great and smell… Continue

Figaro has been rescued!

Figaro's start on a new life:

I was lucky enough to be the one to provide a temporary emergency foster home for a very special little boy -- his name is Figaro.

Figaro and a little friend were running loose on a freeway in Southern California, fortunately, they were both picked up before they could be hit by oncoming traffic. However, they both ended up in the county animal shelter and…

Josh is rescued and very happy about it!

Meeting Josh at the shelter, what a happy guy!

After waiting an entire 2 weeks for Josh's registered owner to come collect him... and her never showing up... we have finally been allowed to bail Josh out of doggie jail. The shelter attempted to contact her via phone, mail and I think even a drive-by, but never was able to…

Beach Barcley

This Thanksgiving, we are so thankful to have Barcley in our lives. He is a loving and faithful member of our family and we are truly blessed to have him. We took Barcley on a trip to the beach with us this fall, and, like the rest of the family, he likes the beach as much as the…

Little Dood with no name

On Saturday we met up with Ann (Sheba and Duke's mom) to pick up our newest foster Truman. My husband and son have wanted to give him a different name since he arrived but no one has been able to agree on one and he has become known as Little Dood - not because he is a puppy but because he is smaller than Clifford the big red doodle dog. Since he has a temperament similar to Clifford's he is fitting in well and may end up staying as part of our family which…

Cash - A new Foster Dog blog

What kind of name is Cash for a dog? I can see it with one of Paris Hilton’s fussy little mini-dogs. But a Labradoodle named Cash? Well, considering that he was in prison in Tennessee, he was probably named after Johnny Cash. It just sounds a little ostentatious to me, and this is no ostentatious dog!

Cash came to us after a long weekend of transport and different people, tired and a little confused. He met Mater and…

The Drive "Bye" Joy Run!

As wonderful of a house guest as Dudley is, we were reminded last night that he is still a puppy! My hubby was cooking dinner on the grill around 7:00, and he came back to in to announce that “I had a little problem”, note, not him! LOL! Seems that he didn’t close the screen behind him and Dudley apparently saw something he was more interested in outside than inside and ran out into the yard. The cats…

Dudley Doodle!

What a great guy! We had our first big strom last night since Dudley came to stay with us a few weeks ago. Lots of wind, rain, thunder and things flying around the front porach. I put Dudley to bed at 9:30 as usual and he never made a peep. He is by far the best dog I've ever seen in a kennel! I have to make him get up at 7:30 in the morning to go outside. It's like have two teenagers in the house. Our son and Dudley share a room and when our son isn't home, Dudley just keeps looking for…

Meet Sweet Paisley...

Paisley was picked up on Halloween down in Houston by our volunteer Anabel. She was from an owner who was "downsizing" their dogs. It wasn't until Anabel got her home, to temporarily foster her until I could come and pick up, that Anabel discovered that poor Paisley was petrified...of everything. Anabel couldn't get within 10 feet of Paisley when she would deficate all over herself because her tail was tucked under her so tightly.

The following Wednesday, I met Anabel to pick up Paisley…

What do I have to do?

It's great to read all the nice stories about euthanasia, beautiful flying dogs etc. but what I want is to find an adoptable Doodle. PERIOD. We've spent hours pouring over all kinds of sites with nothing but hype.

We lost our 12 year old Greyhounds - one 2 years ago and the second a few months ago. We really want a Doodle to pal around with our Westie, but the websites have proven to be nothing but Marketing 101. I think we need to just go to our PetSmart and see what they… Continue

A Happy Ending for Gus Foster Doodle!

Last night, Gus went home with his forever family! Carrie and Karl (Gus' new folks) drove down from Asheville, NC with their miniature poodle, Rerun. I have to confess that I fell instantly in love with Rerun, a real spitfire of a little girl. Also - she's kind of a tan color that went oddly well with my decor and she just sort of looked like she belonged! (I almost sent one of my throw pillows home with them because Rerun looked so good next to it!). A little bit about Gus' new…

Angus McDoodle is the latest foster (I believe) to DRC. Angus was originally named "Sprite" but when you see him he's more of a Lug than a Sprite. Angus came to us from Maysville, TN on Monday and I picked him up from Linda Rudder (Fitz's aka Scottie's adoptive Mom) on Tuesday. I don't know if its just me or these Tennessee boys are very well fed for being "strays." Angus is a dream. He's friendly, clean, playful, already neutered, and housebroken.…

Gus the Foster Doodle, aka The Big Lump of Sugar

As you may have read in Nina's blog "Gus Has Been Sprung", Gus is 3(ish) labradoodle boy. Nina and her DD drove to Piedmont, AL to pick him up on Tuesday, and Nina got him vetted, let him have a slumber party with her pack and then got him groomed. Our normal foster drill has Callie at a neighbor's house while I bathe the new foster and try to get him settled in and then trying to keep…

Gus has been sprung

Tuesday 11/2...

Well, the elder DD and I drove to the Etowah Animal Shelter and sprung Gus from jail. We had a bit of fun taking the “scenic” route (read as we got lost as sh#%t even with the GPS) through rural Georgia & Alabama. We picked up

Gus and drove 1.5 hours back home and straight to our vet. Gus has (soon to be had)

tapes, hook and whip worms, but is thankfully H/W negative. I am happy to say

that he is a GREAT car rider and one big lovable hunk. He is also…

RANT (alternate title, WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???)

This morning I spoke with a shelter in Alabama (roll tide!) who posted an adorable labradoodle named Gus on petfinder. I was asking the shelter's rep a lot of questions and found out the following.

Gus is an owner surrender, done very hush-hush because he belongs to a friend of someone on the city council (so no names are involved and we can't get past vet records).

The reasons listed for the surrender are:

1) He chases motorcycles

2) He makes…
