August 2010 Blog Posts (14)

Just added some more pics. of mostly Cooper-took them the other day. I especially like the ones with the tennis ball-he loves those balls and catches them every time!! I love the little Coop, and so does Casey!!! They are together all the time and cannot live without one another! Boy did I make the right decision to adopt him. Everyone should have more than one doodle.

Foster Dog Blog #3 - Getting to know Gus

You can’t keep a good Labradoodle down. We are learning that as we try to keep Gus calm and without any stress on his heart or lungs as the heartworm treatment does its job. Gus is still a puppy at heart and playing in the sprinklers on a hot day fills him with such a joyous exuberance for life that it’s hard to stop him. (Photo clip from video is attached.)…

Coco Chanel has a new forever family

I have been holding off posting this but then I saw that Coco is showing adopted on Petfinder. And it is true, she has a wonderful forever family that is driving from upstate New York to Atlanta to pick her up. They will be here next week. Coco will have both a doggie sister and brother. She will be able to romp and play with them on 3 acres filled with lots of good smells.

Coco's new family says that their other dogs ration their kisses so they are excited that Coco is one kissie… Continue

Callie coping, post Bixby Foster Doodle

I've said it before and I'll say it every time I foster, but if Callie wasn't Callie, I would never be able to take a foster. She's easygoing about the process, helps the new dog learn the "rules" of the house (ok, she mostly tells them that everyone sleeps in the bed and everyone gets on the couch), leads by example, shares (but doesn't take any guff) and is generally the BDOC (big doodle on campus).

Fostering has a natural end. As a human I know that this dog who has been a…

Coco Knee Injury Update

Great news on Coco's injured knee. She is doing much much better. She is able to put more weight on her leg every day. She is feeling so much better that she jumped up on my bed for the first time since her injury. When I first walked into my room I just noticed a doodle laying on the bed. I really didn't take in which doodle was it was until Harlow pushed her head in my hand for a scratch. That is when I realized it was Coco in the bed. She was so proud of herself and excited that she could…

Miss Coco is recovering from her banged knee.

Whew! We got the good word from the vet last week... No knee surgery for Coco.

The adjustable stifle (knee) brace I ordered for her came in 2 days. It really did help support her knee and I feel greatly helped in allowing the healing process to take place. She is now putting some weight on her back leg and the vet is pleased with her progress. We have another 2 weeks of rest and minimal walking, but she is doing sooooo much better.

Mr. No Name in CA

Marci and her son shlepped in traffic to go to pull Mr. No Name from the shelter.

Marci finally got Mr. No Name out of the Carson Shelter in LA County - not an easy feat I might add!

They made us both jump through hoops but we persisted, there was no way he was staying in that shelter, and he is now FREE!!

He got his vaccinations and still has to be neutered but that has to wait a little while yet. Have to wait for the wound on…

Barcley -- The Adventure Continues

Barcley continues to do terrific after his successful heartworm treatment. For his latest adventure, he enjoyed a morning of hiking at Chimney Rock near Lake Lure, NC. Barcley hiked all the way to the top and back and then down the Hickory Nut Falls trail and back. He loved the hike but was a tired pup at the end. He also made a lot of new friends along the way!

Barcley still has no idea how much higher up we have to…

Is it just me?

I feel like it's raining "DOODLES". There seems to be so many more doodles on our site and all over the country that need our help than I have noticed before?

The Meaning of Rescue!

I'm sure many of you who have been doing this for awhile have seen this before, but I came across it today and being pretty new at all of this I thought it was worth sharing for anyone who hasn't seen it!

The Meaning of Rescue

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed

All nicely tucked in my warm bed,

I'd like to open my baggage

Lest I forget,

There is much to… Continue

Connecticut dog adoption tragedy - unspeakable and not for the faint of heart

A dog recently taken into foster care from a shelter was adopted out, and shot by his owner within 48 hours.

The Advocate only keeps the article active online for 14 days, so I am summarizing below with excerpts from the article:

"An online adoption profile -- complete with a photo --… Continue
