Dawson Update

Now that Dawson's double ear infection and UTI is under control we have definitely got to see more of his personality. He has started to initiate playing more and he has not wanted to sleep as much. My doods have finally figured out how to play with this long armed guy, so everyone is getting along a lot better. …

Lump in my throat...

Sophie's new dad called me this morning and will start the formal adoption of Sophie.  We are really going to miss this girl.  She has been with us for well over a month and has changed from a dog starved for affection into a well adjusted dog who can share affection with other dogs.  However, what makes us feel good is that we know what kind of a wonderful life she will have with Tony because we know how well he cared for his previous dog, his darling Labrador.  We also feel good that…

Bruneu's Update

After two weeks of living a life of freedom and attention Bruneu says he never cares to go back to his old way of life.  He spends his days and evenings close to his peeps, interspersed with romps in the yard and posing for pictures.  At the vet last week he showered everyone with attention and was happy when people lavished kind words and affection on him.

This guy's resilience is amazing, he settled into our routine without missing a beat and he's never forgotten his…

Update on Barley

Barley was doing great over last weekend however he started developing diarrhea on Sunday and I am not sure why as his poops were very firm before that and we had almost finished transitioning him to his new food.

So I switched him to a bland rice diet along with some of the vet supplied Imodium pills (Susan had left over from a few weeks ago) yet he has not been improving. He is eating well (rice, boiled beef, hard boiled egg, yogurt), drinking plenty of water (added unflavored…

Update on Zoe...

Zoe is eleven pounds as of today.  She also went the night without wetting in her night-time pen.  Tomorrow, she will meet a possible adoptive mom!  Today will be a bath and a little grooming to make her look spiffy!

She has decided that an old knotted sock is the most fun toy in the house and uses it to play tug of war with Skye.  Despite being only 1/3 of Skye's size, she holds her own quite well.  This little girl is really a trooper!

We have 11-maltese…

Sophie met her new dad today...

It was love at first sight.  Sophie is a normally friendly dog but, not to the extent she was with Tony.  She started kissing him immediately and Tony loved her.  He will pick Sophie up from us right after the Fourth of July.  As our friend who witnessed the meeting said, "This looks like a match made in Heaven!"  This picture is from my wife, Judy's,… Continue

Bart's new family

I am so excited. Bart's new family came and picked him up yesterday. What a great and loving family he now has. He is going to be very spoiled and very happy there. Now I see why Mater had such a great time there. He hopped right in with them and was ready for the new fun adventure in his life! Thank you Cathy and Bruce for giving Bart such a great home!

A week and a day....

I think it's amazing how quickly a dog can fill your home and your heart with love.  We haven't had this girl for very long, and not only are the humans infatuated, but Mac and Lucy are as well.

Vanessa is silly, sweet, playful and cuddly. She is friendly and fun. She now gets excited when it's time to get in the car because we usually end up on some sort of adventure. She is learning, however slowly, the value of food treats. She sits well, and, though rarely, stays.

For her…

Day Two with Barley

We got up bright and early to get the stitches removed and boy was Barley happy to get them out. While I was standing at the counter in the vets office waiting for the dog license to print out I look down and Barley is in the next room with the office staff. Seems in a matter of a few minutes he had chewed through his brand new leach. I was shocked as I had never seen a dog chew through a leach before nevermind in minutes. So much for that…

Barley and Robert, Yes We Are Home!

After 10 days of travelling the west through canyons and deserts, 5 days of hiking and 4 different locations, needless to say were tired and looking forward to coming home last night. However we have never been so excited about a vacation coming to an end as we were yesterday. We knew we were picking up Barley after we dropped off our luggage. Although Barley had stayed with us for the weekend before leaving we all got so attached to him and it was hard to part ways even for our…

Bart going to his new home

Well it sounds like Barts new family is coming to get him on Saturday. It is going to be a bittersweet day! I am so excited for him to be going to his forever home, but I am sure going to miss the big over grown clown in this house! Just seeing all the changes in him from when we first picked him up until now has been a roller coaster ride, full of ups and downs, but in the end a great ride! Knowing that he is going to such a great home that he so deserves is like the most wonderful thing! I…

Barley's last day here....

Bittersweet day, Barley will be going to his new home later this evening. My daughter gave him many hugs and belly rubs before she left for work this morning. Right now he has taken Ginger's usual place and is sleeping under my desk (she is in the front of the house resting).

Barley still has his stitches in from surgery, and is "coned" most of the time (poor little guy). The last 2 days I have tried to give him a break from the cone, and he was doing great...until he was left alone…

Video of Skye playing with Zoe the puppy

Although we know that Skye's previous owner (who had him for only a month) considered that he played too rough with her little dog; he has never shown signs of aggression or even overly rough play here in his foster home.  This is a video of Skye playing with Zoe our Doodle puppy rescue.

Zoe has a new friend...

Zoe just loves to play and, although she is quite game, the other three doodles in our house are a bit large (30, 40 and 60 pounds compared with her 10 pounds) and can play a bit too rough for this pup.  Our Maltese are too small and, besides, most of our resident Maltese are matured beyond the playful puppy stage and resent a puppy trying to start a game of tag.

Enter Isabella who is just what Zoe needed.  Isabella is a ten pound young Maltese mix (with what is anyone's…

This Chocolate is good for everyone!

Yep, our new foster, Bruneu, is a gorgeous blend of all kinds of chocolate and has a delicious personality to match. He's the ultimate Chocolate Kiss, and is more than willing to share his lovin' with everyone he meets - but in a very gentle way. When I met with Sue Cooper, who drove him from Columbus to Perrysburg, I thought she had brought me a sheepdog instead of a doodle - he was that hairy!  I was sure he had beautiful eyes somewhere behind his hair but they were well hidden.…

Vanessa the Foster Doodle - 48 hour update.

Vanessa has been with us for 48 hours. Since this is our very first foster, and the first time we've had more than 2 dogs in our home, we had no idea what to expect. She's 6 months old or less, and in my experience, pups that age are just plain silly.  Not Van.  Naturally full of puppy exuberance, but she also has manners.  She seems a little mature for her age.

Housebreaking is one of our main concerns, so we have been getting her outside frequently and showering her with…

Sophie is progressing wonderfully.  She is great around adults, children and other dogs.  Her jealousy and needy behavior is moderating quite well.  We think that she was so starved for attention when she arrived that she considered other dogs as competitors for that attention.

She has never been possessive over her food and shows very little possessiveness over treats.  She does get a bit annoyed when sparring for a toy with, Dandy, our 5-pound male Maltese. However Dandy,…
