Mast Cell Tumors

We adopted our fur baby, Lucky, from Doodle Rescue about 5 years ago. A few weeks ago I found a lump on his side. Results came back as a mast cell tumor. He was operated on last week, but they weren't able to get it all. He's on anti-biotic, Claritin & after the stitches come out, he may go on prednisone. There weren't many cells left, so the Dr. thinks he will be OK. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this & if so what was the outcome. On a scale of 1 - 5, his came back as a…See More

New Jersey
Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I'm recently retired & about eight months ago, I lost my fifteen year old cockerpoo. My son purchased a labradoodle, who just turned a year old & we fell in love with her. I just filled out an application for Winston who is smaller & the perfect size & temperment for me & my husband.
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs in the past? Any other pets?
Our first pet was a Cockerpoo named Scruffy that we raised from a baby & he died at the age of 12. Our next dog was Mugsy, also a Cockerpoo we raised & he passed about 8 months ago at the age of 15. They were both wonderful dogs who brought happiness to us & our grown sons.
Have you read our adoption policies?
Being close to my son's doodle who is the cutest & friendliest dog, we decided we would love to have this type of dog ourselves. We've always had cockerpoo's & loved them dearly right to the end.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
No.

So are you still looking for a fur child?  Helping Kristin look, I've seen so many adorable cocker/poodle mixes - and she's turned them all down!  I saw Gabby and couldn't get her off my mind.  Now she's here!  I hope things work out for you!  Keep me posted!

Rosemary,

Have you found your new furbaby yet?  I was looking at the Doodles in Need section and there are two adorable cockapoos that were just listed; one in Doylestown at http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20674742 and the other in Manalapan at http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20675453

If these aren't too far, it may be worth a look.  Both look adorable!  The light one looks more doodle-y and the black one looks more poo.  They aren't DRC rescues (yet) but are available today.

Hi Rosemary!  Tom and I have both had a passion for a black Goldendoodle.  Something about their uniqueness I suppose.  Anyway I've been checking different breeders for a long time and looking at what they had (and sadly what they charged).  I was really hoping we would rescue one, but my husband insisted on a puppy.  So here we are!  I so love fostering, but he was the one with the dogs all day and I think it broke his heart when they left and he was just to "macho" to admit it.  So he has said we will help transport and we'll always help in an emergency, but he didn't want to foster; he wanted his own baby. I hope one is coming your way soon!  I know how much you want one!  Heaven knows what we are doing with three!  But Pip is my sweetie and I just adore him.

I agree with you that Teddy is adorable!  I emailed my daughter in southern California and told her about  him - he reminds me of Pippin so much!  He's just so cute!  Maybe they could ship him to you??  I'm with you - I love to look at his cute little face and smile!

Rosemary, I so hope that the right one for you isn't far behind.  If I could have cloned Pippin he could have shared his joyful smiling face with you and so many others.  He loves Mater and our grandkids and neighborhood kids and seems as thrilled to be with us as we are to have him.  Fate is such a funny thing - he's not at all what I thought we'd want for our second dog, but he is so right for us too.  Maybe you should consider fostering?  It is a great way to get to know different dogs, and you love them all.  They have a special place in our hearts forever, each one that's come before Pip.  And I hope there will be more one of these days. Then one day the right one just comes "home" like he's never lived anywhere but with you.  You might want to think about it.  In the mean time, you are in the right place to watch for your next companion.  DRC does a great job with the dogs they rescue and they care so much about each one.  Good luck, and I'll watch for you to post a cute face when one is home with you.

Rosemary: Thank you for the kind words. That's how I ended up in Georgia also, my ex-husband was stationed at Fort Benning. I'm originally from Nebraska and once I saw all the green trees, beautiful winters, I just couldn't go back. So my ex, my adult kids and my grandson all live in Atlanta or its suburb. If I had known you'd make the trip to georgia to get him I may have considered it. He's suppose to go to his family in about an hour and I just know its going to work.(Crossed Fingers). Stay in touch please and I'll try to keep you posted on our Georgia fosters.

Rosemary: DRC received over 40+ applications for Winston. Wish that happened for every foster dog we got. I tried to do what I thought was best for Winston with the advice and counseling of DRC and others. I had a number of really good applicants here in Georgia. In fact, he's hopefully he's going to a home this afternoon only 15 mintues from me. With such good applicants close by I was advised to consider them first and alieviate any long distance traveling if possible. I spoke with a couple of prospective adopters in PA and once they realized (I don't know why they hadn't before) Winston was in Georgia and they would have to transport, they asked to have their applications withdrawn. That's not to say you would have too, but if something doesn't work with Winston's new home, I'll be close by to take him. The hardest part of fostering is really not the dog but knowing that you may have to break someone's heart who isn't going to get him. I'll keep you posted on his family. They are a young (at least compared to me) couple with a fenced yard, lots of dog parks, and activities and surprisingly he really seemed to love them immediately. It was like he was picking them. He acted more loving to them than he has done with me over the past 3 weeks. My heart just told me this was the fit. I hope and know you will understand. Thanks for your interest in Winston, and please don't give up finding your dog. Sadly there are so many that need homes you won't have to wait long.
