Profile Information

Where are you located?
Madison, Indiana
Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I am a 48 yr old, soon to be empty nester. I love the companionship you can only get from a canine I am very active and best suited for active dogs.
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs as an adult, with vet records in your own name (not parents' names)?
I have owned two amazing, little dogs for 6 years. Zoey, a bichon, and Max, a black cockapoo. Both were 15 lbs. Both were my world. Both passed unexpected and prematurely. First Zoey, then a year later, Max. I was devastated and heartbroken.

That is how Mazey, my goldendoodle came into my life. After losing Zoey and Max I could not bare being dogless. I wasted no time. Mazey (named by combining Max & Zoey), came into my life at 8 weeks. She was a joy from day one. She was with me 24/7. I was fortunate to be in a position where I could take her to work with me. She was such a delight! She loved every person and animal she came across. I was very careful during each developmental stage and it paid off. She had no anxieties what so ever. She LOVED the water and playing fetch. My heart will forever have a special place for her.
If you are looking to adopt a doodle, why have you chosen this mix?
I love the personality and energy level of doodles. I fell head over heals in love with my doodle and cannot imagine having anything but a doodle. It's a perfect match. My lifestyle is well suited for a doodle as well as my home. I have a acre and half, a creek and a fenced yard.
Have you read our adoption policies, located under the "About DRC" tab?
Are you aware that many doodles are not allergy friendly and that many of them do shed?
Are you aware that we do not adopt to homes with children under 10, and that we do not adopt dogs for service work?
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
I fell in love with a doodle! I had the sweetest, most amazing doodle and she left this world too young and very unexpected. I've had three wonderful, fur-friends that I bought as pups. I cared, nurtured and loved them and all three turned out amazing. I want to share the love I have, and the love my three pets showed me, with a dog that really needs some extra tlc to reach their potential.

Miles, aka "Rufus", is adjusting well to his new life...

Posted on August 27, 2013 at 5:58pm 2 Comments

Its now just a little over two weeks since Miles, as in Davis, aka "Rufus" (in his previous life) came into my life. I am the most blessed person for having the amazing doodle as part of my family.

His life in our quiet, little southern Indiana town began with a early morning "Walk for Fitness" outing where he walked with none other than our very own governor and many children from the local schools. All the children fell instantly in love with Mr. Miles, almost as much as…

If you are interested in adoption be sure to read our DRC ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. If you haven’t already filled out an application, be sure to get one on file.
Check the OUR ADOPTABLE DOODLES section.! When you are looking at the pictures, notice that the two letters in front of the dog’s name mean the state they are being fostered in. While the DRC allows out of state applicants, they cannot transport the rescues and will not let them fly, so you need to be within driving distance of the foster.

Here are some additional ideas for finding a rescue doodle:
1. Here is an article on what a doodle really is:
2. Click on the REGIONAL LISTINGS section which lists poodles and mixes from other organizations and shelters around the country -- click "Follow" right below where it says "Replies Are Closed For This Discussion" and you will get email notifications when new listings are added;
3. Here is a helpful article on how to find a doodle on Petfinder and in shelters:
4. PETFINDER (putting in all zip codes within your driving distance) as well as possible dog breeds that could be doodles;
6. GOOGLE in shelters and humane societies within your driving range. Check their sites often.
