Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I am considering adopting or fostering a Goldendoodle. I'm not sure exactly when, but sometime in the next year if I find the right dog that will get along with my dog. I live with my husband on a barrier island in New Jersey and he is retired. I work part time 2 miles from home. We are both dog lovers. We have a private home and a 6 foot fenced in yard. We also own a large dog crate, that our dog doesn't need anymore since he sits on the sofa. I drive a Honda Element.
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs as an adult, with vet records in your own name (not parents' names)?
We (my husband and I) have a 7 year old Portuguese Water Dog who is a rescue. We adopted him when he was 1 1/2 from the PWD breed rescue. . We have a fenced yard and we live near our local dog park. We take him to the groomer on a regular basis and he looks clean and nice all the time. He has regular veterinary care and eats EVO Herring and Salmon Chow with Green Beans every day. We initially had some food allergies from grain and he cannot eat chicken, so now he gets fish and veggies. Schooner seems to like female dogs best and shys away from the male dogs rough-housing, but he does like to socialize. The dog will definitely be a house dog with occasional beach walks and visits to the dog park, unles she is happier in our back yard with Schooner. We would like to find a dog that is house trained, because Schooner has never done anything in the house.
Have you read our adoption policies, located under the "About DRC" tab?
We have a good friend from our dog park with a doodle named Bentley. He is another big boy and is very gentle and sweet and everyone loves him. Schooner gets along with him better than most of the other males. We are interested in an adult, not little puppies. We also like the non shedding feture and don't mind taking him to the groomer.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
I volunteered for my local animal shelter recetly doing outreaches on occasion.

Welcome Big Beautiful Benny Ball Player!

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 1:30pm 1 Comment

Anyone looking for  a dog who can leap and catch a fly ball 100 times and drop it at your feet after sitting and doing a down/stay, he's at my house!  Benny needs space to run and play. He becomes a couch potato after the ball game!   He's well behaved in the house and he loves to be with dog people.  …

ALFIE LIKES THE DOG PARK

Posted on December 21, 2011 at 11:00am 4 Comments

We didn't know how Alfie was with other dogs, so I took him to our dog park this morning and HE WAS FINE.  We stayed for over an hour and he played with 4 other dogs.  He was submissive to all of them and had a good run with the pack! Now he can go to a furever home with another dog!

Alfie needs a forever home

We have had beautiful  Alfie for 1 week.  Poor Alfie was living with a family for around 6 months who gave him up because they had 3 small children, then he went to a senior couple who did not have the energy for a young Doodle.  Then poor Alfie was stuck in a terrible shelter who didn't put him on Petfinder for 3 weeks. We he first came to our home, he was frantically tryng to escape..  Of course, while here he has been neutered and is up to date on all his shots.  He is a 65 pound young…

We have a lot of doodles at my hospital that are used as therapy dogs... such great temperaments and because of their "muppet" like movements and personalities they usually bring big smiles!!
