Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I am a retired self-employed attorney. I have had dogs all my life. Cats and Chickens, too. I am divorced. I have 2 adult children and one 15 year old grandson. I'm really pretty boring.
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs as an adult, with vet records in your own name (not parents' names)?
I have 1 goldendoodle named Emmett. He just turned 4. I adopted him when he was 6 weeks old from a breeder in Tennesee. I can't recall her name or kennel but she was on an approved doodle breeders list. I also have a 3 year old Bassweiler (a rescued part Basset hound and Rottweiler) named Boomer. He and Emmett are inseparable. I had a third dog - Major (part Rottweiler/Husky) age 7, but Major died of osteosarcoma on March 17, 2010. He was the best dog in the world.
If you are looking to adopt a doodle, why have you chosen this mix?
I have fostered for DRC for years while living in Georgia and recently lost my oldest goldendoodle Emmett so I am interested in fostering if I am needed in or around Nebraska.
Have you read our adoption policies, located under the "About DRC" tab?
I originally obtained Emmett to be a companion dog to Major. At the time Major was suffering from epileptic seizures and I had read about golden and labradoodles being intelligent enough to sense when a seizure was coming. Interestingly I brought Emmett home in October and by November Major had his last seizure. He never had another one and I credit Emmett's companionship to bringing about that result. Sadly Emmett couldn't prevent the cancer.
Are you aware that many doodles are not allergy friendly and that many of them do shed?
oh yes. I call the sheds "Doodle Bunnies"
Are you aware that we do not adopt to homes with children under 10, and that we do not adopt dogs for service work?
Yes
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
I have only adopted rescued dogs (Major and Boomer) and but my neighbor has been a doodle foster mom and asked me to consider doing it since I work from home now.

Meet Georgie!

Georgie is my newest foster.  He's a sweet male goldendoodle that was rescued by DRC two weeks ago here in Georgia.

The picture below shows him…

Hershey Kisses and Hugs

Meet Hershey - my last foster. Is that not a face to love???  Hershey has been with my pack for about 5 weeks now and fits in like he was born to it.  Hershey is a 1 1/2 year old chocolate Labradoodle (with a touch of white on his chest and a little gotee) that was found as a stray in a shelter in south Georgia.  Can't say that he barks with a southern accent…

Chance and His Forever Family

Posted on May 30, 2011 at 8:20am 7 Comments

Yesterday was a red letter day in Chance's life.  He was Adopted!!!  The Luten family in Elkmont, Alabama met Chance and made him theirs.  The Lutens have a chocolate Chesapeake Bay Retreiver named Max who is as big as Chance but heavier.  They had applied for Chance back in Januarywhen he was first with the DRC, but didn't get him.  This was their "Second Chance" for…

Meet Chance

Posted on April 26, 2011 at 2:52pm 4 Comments

I just can't say enough about Chance, my latest foster.  Chance came to live with me and my fur boys on Saturday from his foster Mom Kristen in Alabama.  Kristen is getting married this week and was going to have to board Chance while all that was taking place.  But as the DRC volunteers always do, she put him first and put out a call for a home.  That's where Jeannine and Jacquie came in, and me, too.

Chance, so I was told,  suffers from separation anxiety when he is the…

He is a shadow. I'm bot surprised he is following you everywhere. We would crate him in the giant sized airline kennel (not the wire crate), and he did ok in that. He is a sweet soul, but does have some anxiety issues as you will see how he follows you everywhere. I'm glad he did ok on the ride home. Keep me poster with how he does.

Deborah, yes we fostered Miss Dixie. She is a true success story. How did chance do on the way back? How is he adjusting?

Hi Deborah,
Thank you for letting me know there wasn't anything wrong with my application. I'm trying to write this email through my tears, but, I think you must be a wonderful person & you only want the best for Winston, as I do also. My husband & I lived in Georgia many years ago, when he was stationed at Ft. Gordon & you could be sure, if we were picked, we would have been there in a heart beat, even if I had to camp out in your back yard. (ha! ha!) I think if you lived in NJ, we would be friends... Love Ya, for being so kind to animals, Rosemary - PS How was the Doodle Walk today.

Hi Deborah, I was just checking the site for Winston & noticed he was pending... I'm so disappointed & wondering if there was a problem with our application & why we were not chosen..
Hope the problem he had with the incision is doing better & that we wish him well.....

Thank you for the friend request. I have left Emmett out in my compliments - Sorry Emmett, you are one great dood to share with your guests. Clancy has some dogs that he does not get along with also. When we go to dog parks sometimes one dog will single Clancy out to dominate and Clancy will let him, but as soon as the dog lets him up, Clancy will have a face-off with the dog. Perhaps there is something between Winston and Harvey.

I really think Winston and Clancy look a lot alike. Here is their genetic make-up:
Poodle + Rescue + d/her/8u!h73?? = Winston and Clancy!

Hi Deborah. Yes, Frannie did tell me you are fostering. Thanks for picking up Winston. I understand that Winston may have an issue with his neutering incision. Definitely take him to your vet to be checked. DRC will reimburse you. Welcome aboard. I hope you can join us for our Doodlefest on 10/24.
