Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I had a successful career in sales and sales management in the high tech industry for 25 years in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Oregon 7 years ago. I am 56 yrs. old, single, and have worked as a real estate broker since I moved to Oregon. I have a flexible schedule and work from home often. I am active and enjoy hiking (I have 700 acres of public land with trails next door to my property) running, & kayaking. My home is on 15 acres with a couple of acres of fenced yard with lawn and gravel areas. I have been considering what type of dog I'm going to adopt next and have decided on a doodle. While I can afford to buy a dog, I have decided I'd like to either foster and/or adopt a doodle in need instead. I am at a place in my life where I can help some doodles, and I know I will get much more in return. I have been checking your website for a few months and reading the blogs. I really enjoy the blogs and could see myself doing a nice job taking care of rescue dogs and telling potential adopters about them. I would be interested in hearing if there is anything I can do to help given my location or if it woud be possible for me to adopt. I really felt drawn to Winston on your website today & that is what prompted me to sign up tonight. I felt ready to drive to Atlanta when I read the blog about him! He sounds wonderful.
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs as an adult, with vet records in your own name (not parents' names)?
My family had a poodle and cats when I was a child. I had a collie when I was a teenager. I have enjoyed horseback riding and showing saddlebred horses the last 20 years. My poodle of 14 years passed in April 2010. She was a huge part of my life, my companion, my best friend and I loved her very much. She was a rescue and had quite a few health issues from the beginning. She had the best vet care available her entire life and I became quite good at giving meds, shots, etc. She lived a full & happy life with lots of hiking, doggie parks, obedience training, some agility fun, countless car rides, etc.
Have you read our adoption policies, located under the "About DRC" tab?
I am allergic to many other dogs, so my search started with more allergy friendly breeds. I've had some experience with doodles thru friends & always thought perhaps I'd adopt one someday. I love poodles, but I'd like to experience other dogs too. I like the doodle's combination of athletic ability & ability to settle nicely, their intelligence, and their desire to be with people. While I understand the fit with the particular dog must be there, in general my experience has been very positive with doodles.
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
No, I'm not involved in rescue yet. In the past I didn't have the time, and my last dog didn't do well with other dogs so I wasn't interested in bringing them into my home. I did volunteer at the SPCA in the San Francisco Bay Area helping to train the dogs up for adoption. They had a great program. Now that my dog has passed & I am at a point in my life where I can do more, I'd like to either foster or adopt. I have a great place for dogs and enjoy walking with them, training them, and taking care of them and I have the time to deal with the issues that come with rescues. I also have access to some good dog training professionals in the area and even an indoor agility course.

There aren't a lot of doodles in California shelters either. We DID find Clancy at a shelter fund raiser. Here is a link to his story:
This is why I suggest that people check out their local shelter websites for as far away as they are willing to drive. You just might be the ONE who finds that doodle and gets him!
