Where are you located?
Plano, TX
Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I am an animal lover and recently lost my sweet boy of 12 years, "Sydney", while away on a trip to Europe. He was so loved that my mother-in-law bought her own ticket to Dallas to "babysit" him if we ever went out of town. I joined DRC to see if I could help YOU in any way.
Tell us about your dog(s) and/or other pets that you have:
We used to tell people that Sydney was part cocker, part poodle and part who-knows-what, so we referred to him as a "dog poo", which, of course, gave everyone the giggles. He was our only pet (our fourth child) and we spoiled him rotten. His passing was a shock to us - he wasn't sick, just getting on in years. He had hardly even slowed down.
Have you read our adoption policies?
We got Sydney from a box in front of a pizza place. The owner was just about to load him onto his truck for delivery to a local shelter because he already had two dogs and had been unsuccessful at giving this one away. We passed the place as we finished grocery shopping and it was love at first sight. I am currently checking on a doodle at a nearby shelter who was left by an elderly lady who needed to go to an assisted living facility in another state. I didn't think I could take in another one so soon, but now I don't think I can live without one! And my heart breaks to think that her time may be limited. (Or any animal's time may be limited in ANY shelter!)
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
We are not currently involved in rescue because we both still work full time. Sydney had the run of the house during the day and was excellent - we never had a problem (he had a doggie door that he used all the time), but I would never expect a rescued dog to behave in a strange environment. I would love to become more actively involved as we (or even I) get closer to retirement, which is coming soon :)

pirate welcome to drc
I am so sorry for your loss. I know Sydney's place cannot be filled, but having recently lost one of our sweet dogs, I understand the house must seem so empty.

Hello Anne-Marie,
Welcome to this crazy group of doodles rescuers! There are plenty of doodles that need homes down in Texas. We could triple our number of foster homes in Texas and they would always be full!
