I've been trying all day to get Belle off my mind, with very little success.  I'd like to know more about her and how to fit her into our pack.  Mostly, I want to make sure we can make her happy.…Continue

Tell us about yourself and how we might help you:
I currently own 3 dogs (3 year old male golden, 13 year old female golden and 10 year old (I think) American Bulldog/Pit mix) and two cats. I also own a pet supply store (no animal sales, only adoptions). I started looking at Petfinders to see if there was that dog that just grabs at your heart. Although I'm not ready to adopt right now I will be in the next year or so. I saw Belle and wished I figure out a way to make her happy. Still trying. Anyway, I liked what your website and facebook page said so I thought I would make a connection with you for the future. If you would like to check out the face book page for my store it's Good Dog Naturally. We also do grooming under the name The Scrubby Puppy.
Do you currently own a dog? If not, have you owned dogs as an adult, with vet records in your own name (not parents' names)?
Two of my dogs are from breeders (the Golden's) but Buffy (the mix) is from St. Francis Animal Sanctuary. Both the cats are adopted from a local rescue organization.
If you are looking to adopt a doodle, why have you chosen this mix?
I'm quite familiar with the breed. A local breeder (Southern Cross) shops with us. I like their intelligence and their demeanor.
Have you read our adoption policies, located under the "About DRC" tab?
Are you aware that many doodles are not allergy friendly and that many of them do shed?
Are you aware that we do not adopt to homes with children under 10, and that we do not adopt dogs for service work?
Are you now involved in Rescue? If so, how? Are you interested in volunteering with our rescue?
I serve on the Board of the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary and we hold adoption days for some of the local rescue groups.

Hi Angela, Karen already gave you some of this information in your discussion, but it bares repeating. :-}
If you are interested in adoption be sure to read our DRC ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. If you haven’t already filled out an application, be sure to get one on file. You can find the application at the top of any page.

Check the OUR ADOPTABLE DOODLES section.! When you are looking at the pictures, notice that the two letters in front of the dog’s name mean the state they are being fostered in. While the DRC allows out of state applicants, they cannot transport the rescues and will not let them fly, so you need to be within driving distance of the foster. If you have an application on file and you see a dog under the DRC’s care, you can send an e-mail to: stating that you have an application on file and would like to be considered for (name of dog).

Here are some additional information for you:
1. Here is an interesting article that points out dog breed differences genetically, especially mixed breed dogs like doodles:
2. Here is an article on what a doodle really is:
3. Here is a helpful article on how to find a doodle on Petfinder and in shelters:
4. GOOGLE in shelters and humane societies within your driving range. Check their sites often.
